Will throw full weight behind TNA: Sangaree

Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) leader V. Anandasangaree will contest the elections to the Northern Provincial Council from the Kilinochchi district on the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) ticket after returning to active politics breaking a long silence.

A veteran politician Mr. Anandasangaree told Daily Mirror Online that he made this decision to reestablish his connection with the people.

“I have been an MP for the Kilinochchi district and there are lots of things which have been left undone. I decided to reestablish my relationship with the people among whom I live and on whose behalf I fought over the years,” he said.

Mr. Sangaree was earlier sidelined after he fell out with the TNA hierarchy subsequent to his decision to make a defiant stand against the LTTE.

“The TNA didn’t make use of me when they should have. I am the senior most serving politician in this country and there was a lot I could have done. The country and my people are bleeding and this is the void that I want to fill” he said.

Mr. Sangaree said although he did not believe that the TNA should have nominated its chief ministerial candidate prior to the conclusion of nominations, he vowed to throw his full weight behind TNA’s nominee Justice C.V. Wigneswaran.

“I will most certainly throw all my weight behind him. He is a good man and his entry is needed at this juncture. I only think that we shouldn’t have hurried in nominating him as the CM candidate” he said
TNA spokesman Suresh Premachandran said the TULF which was a constituent party of the TNA would field candidates at the upcoming elections.

“He is the leader of his party and will contest with us,” he said of Mr. Anandasangaree.

Earlier Mr. Anandasangaree did moved away from the TNA even going to courts against the alliance using his party symbol over a disagreement with TNA’s pro LTTE stance.

His party suffered when it spilit due to the disagreement.

Thereafter, Mr. Anadasangaree joined a newly formed alliance -- the Democratic Tamil National Alliance and contested the Jaffna Municipal Council elections. He won a seat in the JMC before patching up with the TNA.

The Daily Mirror learns that PLOTE leader Dharmalingam Siddharthan will also contest under the TNA for the Jaffna District. (Hafeel Farisz)
