‘Royal pharmacist’ arrested with opium

A 59-year-old Sri Lankan who claims to be a royal pharmacist in Dubai was arrested today at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle in opium worth about Rs.5 million.

The suspect was a resident of Dematagoda and was arrested at the exit point of the airport by Police Narcotic Bureau officers.

The customs officials said the suspect arrived in Sri Lanka with opium stealthily concealed in his travelling bag. (News and pix by Nirmala Ferdinandus)
