Private bus owners threaten strike if bus fares not raised

Private bus owners today threatened to go on a countrywide strike if the government refused to accept their proposal to increase bus fares or failed to provide diesel subsidies for private buses.

Bus fares were increased on February 14 last year and the Transport and Private Transport Ministries assured that bus fares would be amended when they were next reviewed in February this year.

However the Sri Lanka Private Bus Owners Association which operates 16,000 out of 20,000 private buses in the country and controls a greater part of the public transport sector said the authorities had not provided a fuel subsidy as requested or its request to increase bus fares. why can CTB stand up on its feet?... The only time we see red CTB buses is when transporting ballot boxes during elections.

Yes Sir, it is time for an increase. Buses do not run only one fuel and water. The crew need food and water. These keep going up.

ask them to improve the stranded of private buses before they increase bus fares. most private buses in sri lanka dont meet the standards set by the government.

Since most of these buses are owned by politicians, etc. the govt will give in to them. By doing so they fill their own pockets.

yeah,there are excess in army and navy..they can drive buses,therel be punctuality and full dicipline..private bus owners always need a raise and most of owners.
