President has disappointed who supported him to be elected and who voted for him. If he was a hones person, he would have either resigned from UPFA or he would have resigned from presidential post and order new election. As a result, he has lost credibility of Sri Lankans and international community and UN. If that so, how can either UN or International Community trust him that he would conduct a reliable local war crimes inquiry?

maithripala has ignored what the country wants, the voters expected him build a small cabinet made up of political parties that supported him, mainly the UNP. The first betrayal was giving SLFPers that was against him in the Presidential elections ministries, the second and the biggest one is giving Mahinda nominations. eventually Mahinda will take over the party and supress maithripala unless the UNP wins the elections.

President Sirisena left the former government because he could no longer condone with the level of corruption that was going on. He openly criticised MR and his cohorts and promised a thorough clean up including prison for those found guilty. However, he did say he will protect MR from any international attempt to punish him for war crimes. Today, it is very clear they ALL think of is their party and forget the promises made to the people. This is natural phenomenon of Sri Lankan politics, no matter how good they can be. Party politics is stronger than ever. He was thought to be different and elected not to fall victim to pressures within. He had the opportunity for a thorough clean up but unfortunately, his decision is a betrayal of those who trusted him with their votes.

One must therefore be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves.” - Niccolò MachiavelliThis is a good sign. as i see MR is the lion, MS is the fox. both of them loved by people. together they can fulfill the dreams of 20.48 million peoples. otherwise this country will never prosper.

People had hopes and have sacrified soo much to make Maithripala President. Most have not voted for him as a person, but as a saviour to rescue this country from the Rajapakshe clan. Also because he promised to send all corrupters to jail. He had 150 days to do something, but not one Rajapakshe is convicted. As usual a few smaller fish are fried. I am utterly disgusted, frustrated and angry that our new president has no backbone to stand to this what he promised. He puts the victory of the SLFP over the country, the citizens and the crimes committed. Shame on you.

What most of the people who are commenting here do not realize is what they voted for on 8th is to elect a new president to SL. Not to appoint a leader to SLFP through a hostile take over. SLFPers realized that and rallied around MR and there is no other option for MS other than giving nominations. He should not have got the SLFP leadership at the first place. On the other side people who voted for a so called Yahapalanaya should not be worried as if still people think that should be the way to go forward they can vote UNP and allies. So what is the betrayal you guys are talking about. Is it because you have already concluded that MR is going to win in Aug. :)

Many crimes and murders have been gone unsolved. 6.2 million voted againist a corrupt regime. How could President Maithri go back on the assurances made. Now the same old crowd in the fray. It is the society and Religious leaders who should be in front to turn away those corrupt members emerging again. Remember if we do not do it now it is going to be a dooms day! "God Save Srilanka".

It is a clear indication that President Sirisena is more worried about his legacy as the Chairman of SLFP rather than as the leader of Sri Lanka. He has clearly demonstrated with this act that he too is just another ordinary politician we have in our country who does not have the resolve to do what is right and not what is popular!!! The need of the hour is a leader who is willing to make the right call for the future of our nation no matter how unpopular the decision maybe. If he is a true leader he should be able to make the right call and still go and defend his decision in front of his people and earn their respect. Unfortunately, neither MS, MR or RW is capable of doing this, thus we the peasants will be the ultimate losers as Sri Lanka will never be able to achieve its true potential.

President MS for any reason can not give nomination to MR. It is violating the words spoken by MS during the Presidential Election Stages to the public, he very well described how MR did corruption, so we are very much desperate now. I think cheating the majority also a huge sin which can give abnormal birth in next life. Further the argument of MS about the SLFP issue is not the problem of 6.2M voters, as we did not vote to protect SLFP, we wanted good governance to our country. Getting MR to parliament is a big threat to the good governance for sure as he is not honest. No one can keep a pin point trust with MR, we very well saw how he treated the people who supported after he won in 2005.

The only reason for such a great betrayal by President Sirisena could be a threat to his life by the notorious Mahinda and his gang of thieves. It is true that the previous regime under the leadership of former President MR did a great deal by eliminating the terrorism. It was during that period that many mega development projects were launched. But the MR administration was riddled with corruption and frauds as many bigwigs were said to have engaged in misappropriation of public money and other irregularities. The present Government that came to power in January levelled a lot of allegations against the previous regime and those charged with so-called irregularities were arrested and remanded while some were released on bail as there was no evidence to substantiate the allegations. A few of the MPs who represented the UPFA were branded as thieves, drug dealers, rapists and I think they will never be able to build their lost reputation again as they have more or less become unpopular among the public. We, the people of this country do not know exactly if those persons really engaged in such large scale irregularities.

Instead of cry foul, we now expect from RW, to put forward to the general public, a vibrant development proposal (Wickramachinthanaya) for his next term. Definitely his dream of rail kink between India and Sri Lanka would not be enough to attract voters , but it should be a master piece integrated development Proposal for next 04 years where all the citizens of this country will be able to reap the harvest at the end of his terms in office. Then we will vote massively for his development concept in order to pave ways to make it real.

JVP killed a lot of people and caused enormous mental and economic losses during the 1988-90 period. How come JVP has not been held accountable? or were you born in the 1980s?

Ranil and his clan are not capable of running a country. They are just followers of foreign embassies. We saw what they did so far, including the bond scam and many blunders made.

RW is to be blamed for this.He was pressurising MS to transfer all Presidential powers to the Prime Minister, so he (RW) could dictate his will on the people of Sri Lanka.

You cannot vote against MS. Vote against corrupt politicians in any party. You may consider JVP as the best option to form the strong opposition .
