President Mahinda Rajapakse has reportedly asked the Tamil Political Parties Forum (TPPF) how they can find fault with Sinhalese people settling in North when Tamil and Muslim people dominate Colombo.
He raised this question in a discussion he had with the Forum today afternoon, General Secretary of the Democratic People Front Dr. N. Kumaraguruparan told Tamil Mirror online.
The President said this in response to a question on Sinhala settlement posed by the Secretary General of Tamil National Liberation Alliance M.K Sivajilingam.
President Mahinda Rajapakse said he was going to instruct the Attorney General to expedite the cases in connection with Tamil prisoners who are detained for minor offences, Kumaraguruparan told. (Tamil Mirror.lk)

Common Man, Tamil Nadu people refers to the Southern State of India and it has nothing to do with Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu people can live anywhere in India if they are allowed in other States. We were discussing about communities in Sri Lanka. Feel sorry for your misunderstanding.

We had so many capitals under various Sinhalese Kings & Kingdoms, why only mention Trincomale. The closest other race who could claim after Sinhalese is Chinese. (China Bay still exists) Others can watch and wait like good boys.

We must not take only Colombo as an example, there
are lot of sinhala dominated areas in south,Musilms and
tamil dominated areas in east and north.
The regions where the problems were there for many
decades, which has paralysed our economy and prosperity,
that issue
should be amicably settled. That is the permanent full stop
to the civil war.

If one cares to delve into Census records going back to 4-5 decades and Survey Plans, there is documentary evidence of Sinhalese communities living side by side with tamils in Jaffna peninsula. So this is not a case of govt colonisation, but terrorist encroachment.

Ceylon (Sinhala Land) is the only country you find Sinhala speaking people in whole wide universe. Some people can’t stomach it for their own convenience. People must live where they belong, the world will be a peaceful place then.

Tamils r not opposed to Singalese voluntaryly going to the N-E to live. What they object to is State sponsored colonisation
designed to alter the demography of the N-E, which acc to the UN Charter amounts to GENOCIDE.

That is NOT the intention of Tamils & Muslims to live in Colombo. There are choice for them. In reality, the Tamils & Muslims are wish to move to their own homeland in North and Northeast, if the capital of their homeland is re-established in Trincomalee.

Agreed to above all without any doubt. His minus points are.
1. Coop -corrupted ministers still in the cabinet, no action against them.
2. Increasing the public sector by Quantity, Quality of service in question?.
3. Giving priority to his constituency, some areas are completely neglected, (i.e., Kalutara District).
4. Not letting political opponents to practice their rights.
End of the day, the politician is a politician; main concern is to be in power.

Being a Tamil from Colombo, I agree with President in this matter, Tamil parties should stop talking about sinhala settlement in the North, Instead talk about economic development in North. Also should talk about the law and order situation as its getting worse with robbery, kidnappings etc. in the whole island which leads to huge lose in foreign exchange as wealthy people send their savings abroad to safer destinations like India.

The president has said the right thing. For example, in all the States of India, people from other States live for centuries. In Chennai Telugu people(from Andhra) live shoulder to shoulder with Tamils. However, Marwari people(from Rajasthan) dominate the business scene. They buy land and build. But there is no objection from anybody because they are Indians. The same is happening in Sri Lanka, although Tamils object to Sinhalese settling down in Jaffna. Against this background, the president is absolutely correct!

In any country in the world or most countries, Capital is the place where you would find people of all classes, ethnicities or even nationals mix. Its not something to be worried about as long as it progresses. I dont think that Tamils and Muslims moved into Colombo with a plan. Some Tamils moved because of war and some of course for terrorist support. Muslims are traditionally a business community so they moved to Colombo many years ago. The only question here is that Tamils and Muslims should be able to live in North or not and the answer should be they should be able to live anywhere in united Sri Lanka.
0 0
Jay Saturday, 27 November 2010 06:11 AM
I think Tamils are not against Sinhalese living in North or East, but what they are against is the govt sponsored new settlements (not the resettlement). Tamils came to Colombo other parts of South on their own with their own money. If Sinhalese want do the same I think Tamils would welcome that.
