The Consumer Affairs Minister Johnston Fernando said he would take steps to reduce or totally remove the Rs. 50 tax imposed on a kilo of imported potatoes due to the increase of potato prices in the market.

The price of a kilo of potato had risen up to Rs. 120 to Rs.150 in the recent past.

What about the Goviya? You reduce the tax and make the Farmer commit suicide. Those who farm vegetables know this Rs. 120 a kilo is hardly enough to cover the cost. Please think about the farmer and local industry. It is the same case with Onion Farmers.
