Gerard Mendis chocalatier was a shop which supposedly promoted local high end chocolates but in reality he was flogging cheap indian expired imports as his own creations. Please do avoid this shop if ever it re opens.

This story is about The Chocolate Room not Gerard Mendis Chocolatier :-/ Gerard Mendis does not import chocolates from anywhere. He makes them completely from scratch. He only imports the cocoa from Switzerland and Belgium. If you read the whole article in the papers today, they mention that the outlet is at Rosmead Place and not Horton Place and that it imports chocolates from India. Do the math.

Good News Folks! The 'Choc Shop' mentioned is NOT Gerard Mendis Chocolatier. It is simply sad to see people willing to believe the worst in good products. Their chocolates are made on a daily basis at Horton Place and thus not brought down from India.
Sad sad when good products don't get the recognition that they deserve!

Thank you DM for this news item. I feel Srilanka should get over the policy of safeguarding the names and businesses which do wrong. What's the rationale to protect their identities..? Same goes for people who commit crimes. Even their pictures should be published with a policy to NAME AND SHAME. An effective correctional tool.

Many business selling imported food items are doing this. They bring down goods that are about to expire from foreign supper markets for a song and sell it to unsuspecting customers altering the label.
Best way is to avoid them

Thanks for highlighting this. But as Tintin said, safeguarding the names of these establishments & the people involved doesn't really help. It would actually help to curb the issue if the names and pictures are published because of the bad publicity they would get once caught.
