Video: 'Political henchman' behind transfer of 23 Police officers- JVP

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today urged the government to divulge the ‘political henchmen’ who engineered the transfer of 23 police officers attached to the Organised Crimes Investigation Unit.  

JVP MP Vijitha Herath said these policemen were transferred to remote areas as a result of doing their services by the law.

“The investigation of the police officers has revealed that politicians were involved in operating the gambling den. The police spokesman stated that the police officers had been transferred in completing more than six years of service in the area. Yet, the 23 police officers comprised of those who did not complete such tenure” Mr. Herath said.

He charged these transfers were targeted at obstructing legal action against the gambling den.  

He said therefore the transfers given to police officers might lead to the ultimate release of the accused.

Mr. Herath said that unwanted political influence on police services has led to the deterioration of law and order in the country.

He said that amidst the poor facilities provided to the police in general, any police officer who sincerely carries on duties would undergo punishment in place of appreciation. (Naduni Jayasinghe and Sanath Desmond)
