Police find two schoolgirls at bus stand at midnight

Two girls studying at two reputed girl’s schools in Colombo were found by the Maharagama police at a bus stand at around midnight on Wednesday. Police say they were wearing short skirts and T-shirts and appeared to be under the influence of liquor.

Police sources said that they had attended the birthday party and afterwards gone to the bus stand to board a bus to return home. The police had spotted them and taken them to the police station in order to protect them from rapists who were in the vicinity, police said.

On being questioned they had told the police that they had attended a friend’s birthday party held at a hotel in Maharagama. One student had sat for her O/L examination last year and the other was preparing to sit for the A/Ls next year.

Police said that the father of one student was a senior officer in the army and that she was not cared for by her mother; the father of the other one was dead, and her mother was an invalid.

Investigations are continuing at the direction of the OIC of the Maharagama police, inspector Senarath Diyakelinawala. (Bimal Shyaman Jayasinghe)

Yep.. a journalist should put the question to the police media spokesperson ans as the question " why didnt they arrest the rapists that was in the vicinity" ???

Shantapriya, thanks for your comments. Now the circumstances are very clear. I hope the Police will be on the lookout to apprehend the rapists who are lurking in the area where the girls were taken in for questioning. They owe it to the society. via DM iPad app

Instead of taking the girls to the police station they should have taken them to their homes which are said to be close by with some good advice not to be out so late. If then if would have been a civilized act by the police .
What a shit work by the police to bring up the family situations to public . Uncivilized buggers .

It doesn't mention about arresting, says they were taken to the police in order to protect them from any harm that could have being caused if they were left alone, I'm no fan of police, but yes we should appreciate this as it has being done in good faith, try seeing the good picture as well. via DM Android App

Family bond and values are gone to dogs. Disputes between parents and the neglect of children are the main causes for the children to go astray. i know this incident. the girls home is just behind the bus halt
on seeing them police vehicle began to pass them several times looking anxiously at them. when the girls showed their
displeasure they were taken for questioning for making policemen crazy.

I would have thought that catching the rapists, who the police knew were in the area, would be more important than making moral judgements about these two girls.
Even in Sri Lanka, sitting at a bus stop in T shirts and short skirts is not a crime.
