Police claim student’s injuries were self-inflicted
The police said today the injuries suffered by the first-year student of the Sabaragamuwa University by some unidentified people were found to have been self-inflicted.
They said the student Chandra Kumar Sudarshan was arrested on charges of having made a false complaint to the Balangoda Police on August 3.
Police said the complaint consisted of several contradictions when compared with the statements made by the University’s security guards.
Later the student had admitted that the injuries were self-inflected and that he had resorted to this ruse as a method of obtaining a transfer to the Jaffna University which is close to his home. Medical Officer Ajith Tennakoon had confirmed that the injuries were self inflicted.
Police said legal action will be taken against the student. (LSP)
