Parliament adjourned over electricity tariff

Parliament was adjourned until 1.00 p.m. tomorrow after the UNP staged a protest over the electricity tariff hike.

Soon after Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi completed her speech on the electricity tariff hike, the UNP MPs started to shout slogans inside the house. At this point House Leader and Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva requested the Speaker to adjourn the session claiming that UNP was trying to disrupt the parliamentary session.
