Pallepola PS Member arrested for fraud

Pallepola Pradeshiya Sabha UPFA member Krishantha Jayasinghe was arrested today on charges of having defrauded Rs. 6 lakhs when purchasing inter-blocks for road development work, police said.

He was taken into custody by the Polonnaruwa Fraud Investigation Bureau in the Malingamuwa area.

A separate complaint had been lodged against him at the Mahawela police in Matale for allegedly misusing 90,000 rupees when paying several artistes who participated in a ceremony held to bring merit on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the nation, police said.

The suspect would be produced in the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. (Mahesh Keerthiratne)
