The regulations, prohibiting the use of motorcycle helmets, which cover the whole face and helmets with tinted visors, will be strictly enforced with immediate effect, police said today.
According to the regulations, helmets covering the face between the eye brows and the chin are prohibited.
“The helmet should be only attached to the chin,” police said.
Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the law would be implemented as there had been instances where criminals escaped identification by using tinted visors.
He said there was an increase in the number of deaths and injuries due to the use of helmets violating the regulations stipulated in the law. (Aajith Siriwardana)

Safety of riders will be reduced, also what about those that already have these helmets? forced to buy a new one? There are bigger violations and crimes happening daily, Police should be more concerned about catching those criminals, why only the small people. via DM Android App

Full Faced Helmets are not manufactured as "Fashion Statements". When will our law makers ever learn and come to their senses? Will families of accident victims who die of chin injuries and other injuries below the eyes, be able to claim damages from the Police?????

I do not Mind if the Police restricts :- • Excess Graphics on the helmet (around 3-4 is sufficient above that is too much) • Dark Tints on the visor.
But what is illogical is Not being able to where ►Full Face Cover As it is the • Riders Safety from Getting Seriously Injured from accidents and possibly from death. •Most Riders are Vulnerable to Serious Injury and only the Head Gear is there for their Protection and the jacket (If they could afford a good one that is)
Thanks to Robbers Now The majority of Sri Lankan Citizens who use there Motor-Bike as their vehicle of transportation have to suffer the consequences.
Worst Thing to hear from a Police officer
“The helmet should be only attached to the chin,” police said.
I wonder where else could it be attached and if it was a Traffic Police officer who actually said ??

Well it is the responsibility of the Police to identify the criminals using their own merits not implementing rules on helmets.

We are bikers, a part of general population, majority of youngsters, who love biking and cared about safety as well. We have our own choices of choosing the bikes and helmets as well, considering all of them have been allowed to be imported and sold legally, abiding government regulations. We buy bikes, parts and accessories which have been passed through the customs, not a 'smuggled' one. The government didn't ban the import of full face helmets and shaded visors as well.

This is seriously wrong. Every biker should stand against this meaningless law. Where's the concern about the maximum safety. What's wrong with these guys! A full face helmet covers the entire head and a protective section over the front of the chin. Studies have shown that full face helmets offer the most protection to motorcycle riders because 35% of all crashes showed major impact on the chin-bar area. Wearing a helmet with less coverage eliminates that protection — the less coverage the helmet offers, the less protection for the rider. They are just ignoring our safety... BIKERS UNITE AND MAKE A VOICE!

Poor man Saturday, 21 February 2015 07:32 AM
I live in nuwereliya the only way to bear such a cold in night when im returning home after work, is with a full face helmet. For midle class men like us its expensive to buy one. Though we buy one for a good safty..... As usual we cannot be bullied with a blind change of the existing law. The police have to just start working as they should be. Poor people are once again bullied.

What rubbish. While our VIPs enjoy bullet-proof cars the poor motor-cyclist can't wear a full-face helmet for added protection.

Cars are hijacked in broad daylight , you think preventing ppl from wearing full face helmets would solve the problem, its better if the police start doing their job properly rather than trying to pin down the public. They should have more rules against how to catch officers taking bribes from motorists.

IF so the SL government SHOULD HAVE BANNED THE IMPORT of these helmets..Someone connected to the regime may have imported some cheap helmets which wont even stay properly when attached to the chin.. Petty things are MORE important to the POLICE than look into ways and means of netting BIG SHARKS...aka politicians...
