No additional foreign security for CHOGM delegates

No additional security contingents would be accompanying the visiting Heads of State during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Colombo in November, External Affairs Ministry Secretary K. Amunugama said today.

Mr. Amunugama told Daily Mirror Online that apart from the standard personal security protocols for a Head of State, no additional security was to be expected, as the main security provisions were taken care of by a special Sri Lankan security committee headed by Chief of Defence Staff Jagath Jayasuriya.

Earlier General Jayasuriya said the government would implement a special security programme to assure the safety of the visiting Heads of State.
He also said the tri-forces Special Task Force (STF) and Presidential Security Division (PSD) would be directly involved in the security arrangements.
Fifty-four Heads or representatives of Commonwealth states would attend the CHOGM between November 10-17. (Jehan Gunasekera)
