Nine dead in tractor tragedy

At least 9 bodies have been recovered after a tractor carrying passengers who were travelling to visit their relatives for New Years fell into an irrigation canal in Aralaganwila, Polonnaruwa this afternoon.
According to initial reports the tractor had been carrying 24 passengers when the incident occurred.
The incident had occurred in the Aluth Oya area in Aralaganwila in a canal that flows from the Maduru Oya. (K.G. Karunarathne)
