New Sri Lanka selectors headed by Aravinda de Silva have dropped out-of-form veteran Sanath Jayasuriya for the Asia Cup, starting in Dambulla from June 15 and have also opted for left arm spinner Ranagana Herath ahead of Ajantha Mendis.

Herath, who has played his last ODI game six years ago, has played only six One Day internationals in his career.

Regular skipper Kumar Sangakkara returns to lead the team along with Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardane, Farveez Maharoof, Lasith Malinga and Chanaka Welagedara all of whom were not members of Zimbabwe tour party.

However a notable exclusion is the young batting sensation Dinesh Chandimal, who shone in Zimbabwe with the bat.

now it is time for MP sanath uncle to attend aprliament session rather than playing cricket. he will be able to earn few more billions if he can really master the game of sri lankan politics.

I am sure Jayasuriya will want to go to the Third Umpire.
And maybe the Third Umpire will give Aravinda, 'OUT'!!!!!!

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:46 AM

Good move with the World Cup in view. Sanath has been an exceptional cricketer no doubt. Thank you Sanath for the good moments you gave us.

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:48 AM

    at last !!

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:50 AM

The decision of not including sanath for The Asia Cup definitely calls for a round of champagne.

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:52 AM

Its time for Sanath to retire and help Sri Lanka team with his experience .

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:57 AM

Aravinda... Always Great.... As a Crickerter retired at his peak and now a decisionmaker, taking vice decisions in behalf of SL future

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 04:01 AM

well done Aravinda de Silva, but still why no Chandimal????

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 04:09 AM

    Good move

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:31 AM

Dont worry cricket fans, only a telephone call from President will see Sanath back in the team. Already the Sports Minister have become cropper, next in line is Aravinda de Silva.

The decision to drop Sana is the right one.Sana is one of our all time greats but his recent performances prove that his best years are behind him.
Disappointed that Dinesh Chandimal is not included but obviously the selectors have a plan because he is certainly a player of the future.
Great to see Maharoof back in the side. This guy has got talent.
    Mahela,Dilshan,Sanga,Tharanga,Thilan,Kapu,Angelo,Maharoof,Randiv,Malinga,Murali.Not too shabby.

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 04:32 AM

Good decision Aravinda. Sanath cannot be a Politician and a Cricketer at the same time. He is getting old. But be a sportsman.

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 04:35 AM

Yes now he should retire and work for the development of the country being already appointed to the parliament! Problem is whether he has any knowledge about his new responsibilities!

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 04:40 AM

Well done Ara! Keep up the good work

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 04:40 AM

Aravinda, we are proud of u.

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 04:40 AM

Only for the Asia Cup and definitely not from the World cup. Selectors are safe.

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 08:10 AM

I think Sanath is being rested to save him for the world cup. Dont want to expose our Secret Weapon to the indians/pakistanis.

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 06:51 PM

    'Maha rajo, mawa bera ganna'!

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:30 AM

Great decision Mr.Ara. Dear sana let young cricketers play their role now. as senior and master cricketer in SL keep your place sana.

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:23 AM

Like in politics cricket is not for the old codgers

    Thursday, 10 June 2010 03:22 AM

sana, time is up bro (uncle)..

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 11:57 PM

Sanath, please retire for the sake of cricket!

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 10:32 PM

Well done 'Ara'! About time that the 'old man' was put to pasture. Also, great move to drop Mendis, who can now go and work on his bowling. The guy is a great talent and needs to be worked-on.

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 10:17 PM

    Hallelujah !!

    Hallelujah !!

    Hallelujah !!

    Hallelujah !!

    Hallelujah !!

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 09:46 PM

    Well done, new selectors!

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 09:22 PM

"I AM GOING TO MAKE A COMPLAINT TO THE PRESIDENT!"

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 08:54 PM

This guy should have been dropped, a long time ago!

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 07:56 PM

Good move by Aravinda to drop Jayasuriya! Happy to see Maharoof, back again. Hope playing with two all-rounders (Mathews and Maharoof) will provide some depth to the side. The only disappointing thing is the exclusion of Dinesh Chandimal. Still, I don't feel it is a wrong decision as the selectors want to send him to Australia to play with the A-team and get exposed to Australian conditions, so that he can be included in the national team, during their tour to Australia.

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 07:36 PM

He has already done damage to Sri Lankan cricket.

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 07:34 PM

Goodbye 'uncle' Jayasuriya! Anyway, I'm surprised with the selection of Ranagana Herath, as he is not a one-day player. Chandimal will do better with the A-sqaud and get back to the senior squad, in the near future. He is just 20, so he has all the time in the world!

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 07:15 PM

Sanath, now retire from sports. You have, almost, lost your dignity.

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 07:07 PM

YES!!! Now, let's hope that Aravinda is not 'axed' from his post.

    Wednesday, 09 June 2010 06:52 PM

It is a good decision to drop Jayasooriya. But, why young Dinesh Chandimal? Is it the 'end of the road' for him?
