Navy operation to rescue 65 on-board stranded vessel

The Sri Lanka Navy has launched an operation to rescue 65 individuals on board a vessel stranded between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, the Navy said.

Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said the Navy Ship Sagara has been dispatched to the area. However it was not immediately clear whether these stranded individuals, believed to be Sri Lankans, were asylum seekers or not. (LSP)
