Moratuwa carpenters protest over permit issue

Some 500 carpenters in Moratuwa are staging a protest at Kurusa Junction on the Galle road against the Budget proposal enabling the transport of furniture without permits.

They alleged that the removal of the permit would allow outstation traders to bring their furniture to Moratuwa thus risking the livelihood of the Moratuwa furniture traders.

Our reporter said traffic congestion was also prevailing in the area due to the protest. (Rekha Tharangani)
