Due to the atmospheric disturbance over the island, wet weather could be expected over the Southwestern parts of the country in the next 36 hours, the Meteorologist Department said.
The department also said showers could be expected in the Northwestern Province, which was experiencing a severe drought in recent times.
The Met Department said:
“Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and the Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara Districts. Showers may spread to the North-Western Province.
Thundershowers would develop at several places elsewhere particularly during the afternoon or night.
Heavy rain falls (more than 100mm) are also likely at some places.
There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers,” it said in a weather report.
The Department also requested the general public to take adequate precautions against lightning strikes.
The report said that winds would be Southwesterly and can reach between 20-40 kmph.
“The sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota may be rough at times as winds can strengthen up to 60 kmph at times.
Showers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle.
“Skies will be cloudy and rains are expected on the Southwestern parts of the country, while heavy rain falls can be expected in some places,” it said.
