Met : Beware of high winds



Despite the temperature in many areas going upto 39c degrees in Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology today predicted that wind speeds may increase along the Western slopes in the Central Hills accompanied by thunder storms and showers.  

The department said there was a possibility for increasing of South-west monsoonal wind speed at times over the country, particularly along the western slopes of the central hills.

Showers were predicted at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and the Southern Provinces and in the North-Western Province as well.

However, temperature in Trincomalee, Anurdhapura and Moneragala was high as 39c degrees while it was 34.6 in Vavuniya, 36.1 degrees in Polonnaruwa, 34.2 degrees in Potuvil.

Duty Forecaster P. D. Ananda Perera said high temperate had been a usual phenomenon at this time of the year.

Few areas have received a rainfall during the last few days according to the department. Accordingly the highest rainfall of 66 mm was recorded from Canyon, 60 mm in Ratnapura, 40 mm in Ampara and 30 mm at Lakshapana. (Yohan Perera)
