Matale Budget passed in a rush
The 2014 Budget of the UPFA-led Matale Urban Council was hurriedly passed under controversial circumstances with the participation of five members.
According to reports several ruling and opposition councillors had earlier warned that the budget would be defeated.
UPFA’s Matale Organiser and Deputy Minister Rohana Dissanayke is reported to have spoken to the UPFA councillors who were not present when the Budget was taken up for voting.
Opposition Leader Duljith Aluvihare charged that the voting on the Budget was carried out in an authoritarian manner. (Mahesh Keerthiratne)
