The family members of ruling party MP Dumida Silva have asked the government to grant him leave from Parliament for six months so that he can undergo medical treatment abroad for the head injuries he sustained in the shooting incident on October 8, 2011, sources said today.
If an MP gets absent to Parliament at a stretch for three months without getting leave approval from the House, he or she will cease to be an MP. Sources said that the government would move a motion next week asking for leave permission for Mr. Silva for a period of three months first. If leave is needed further, another motion should be moved after the first period of three months lapses. (Kelum Bandara)
