A lion gifted to Sri Lanka by the Seoul Zoo arrived at the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens early this morning.

The two-year-old lion was gifted to Sri Lanka under the programme of exchange of animals between the two countries, the Zoological Garden authorities said.

The lion would be caged until it became accustomed to the environment and would later be released to the open zoological gardens in Rideegama, Hambantota.

Two lionesses are also expected to arrive from Germany at the end of the month and they would be displayed for public viewing after the ceremonial christening. (Pix by M. Suranjith Perera) (News by H.M. Dharmapala)

Just because it is a gift does not mean it should go without a proper quarantine test and procedure as these are not endemic animals to Korea. Maybe it is ill on account of the weather conditions in Korea and could well be bringing diseases with it.

Personally i'm not a big fan of zoo's for the simple reason that the animals are locked up in small enclousures. i think it's cruel. I prefer the national parks where the animals can roam around more freely.

Just nurture it as a tame animal, so it behaves tamely like they do in other countries from small ones. People are allowed to touch and play with it..

The Korean lion is not seems to be that much of ferocious than our own lions in Sri Lanka. Therefore, it should be kept far away from Colombo like the location.
