A Mumbai-based bookie fixed an IPL match for Rs 6 crore after striking deals with four players of Sunrisers Hyderabad -Thisara Perera, Hanuma Vihari, Karan Sharma, Ashish Reddy, The Deccan Chronicle reported.

The above names were mentioned according to a statement by this bookie that has been included by the Mumbai police crime branch in its charge sheet filed on Saturday.

This bookie had been arrested by the Delhi police special cell from a Mumbai hotel. The bookie allegedly met the four players in Pune and fixed the deal with the help of other bookies. The brother of one of the players was a mediator in the deal, the bookie claims.

On Sunday, calls to Ashish and Vihari for their comments went unanswered. While probing the IPL betting scandal, the crime branch property cell learnt that Chandresh Shivlal Patel, 34, was one of the bookies in contact with some arrested and wanted accused. The police then recorded his statement on June 17.

Patel, a sharebroker from Four Bungalows in Andheri (West), in his statement to the police, has claimed that in March 2013, his Ahmedabad-based friend Pravin Thakkar, alias Pintu, introduced him to one Jitu Jain, who is in the finance business.

Pintu also introduced Patel to his friend Mannan, who was identified as a friend of cricketer Amit Singh. Patel's friend Vinni from Mumbai introduced Patel to his friends Yusuf and Amir.

“In the last week of March, Yusuf gave me Amir's number and asked me to call Amir, who wanted to talk about IPL matches. When I called Amir, he told me to come to Hyderabad `to set' an IPL match there. I informed Jitu about this and he asked me to take along Pintu to Hyderabad for the deal. I then went to Hyderabad with Pintu and Yusuf. Amir accommodated us in a hotel room,“ Patel alleged in his statement, which is included in the chargesheet.
Patel said, “Amir told us that it would take Rs 5 crore to fix an IPL match in Hyderabad and Rs 1 crore will be mine (commission), so the total cost would come to Rs 6 crore. “Pintu informed Jitu about the offer, who in turn told us to finalise the deal if they could arrange a meeting with the players. Amir told us that he would arrange a meeting with the players on April 16 in Pune, but asked for an advance of Rs 50 lakh.“

Hyderabad player's kin named in case

On being assured of a meeting with the players, bookie Chandresh Shivlal Patel and the others came back to Mumbai the next day and was informed by Pintu that Jitu had sent Rs 32 lakh to Amir. “On April 16, Jitu, Pravin, Yusuf and I went to Pune, where at Le Meridien Hotel Amir's friend Sunil introduced us to Sunrisers Hyderabad team players -(Thisara) Perera, (Hanuma) Vihari, Karan Sharma, Ashish Reddy and his brother Pritam Reddy,“ Patel alleged in the statement.

“Pritam asked me what I wanted to do, to which I said that the score should not cross 60 runs in 10 overs and 140 runs in 20 overs and Sunrisers should lose the match,“ Patel claims. He also told Pritam that some signal should be given so that bets can be placed. Pritam told him he would finalise everything and inform Amir about the same. Patel and his part ners then left for Mumbai.

“The next day, Amir called me and said that Pritam told him that the signal was that in the second over a Sunrisers Hyderabad player will get out,“ claimed Patel.

On April 17, there was a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Pune Warriors and, as Amir had said, in the second over, a Hyderabad player got out. Jitu placed bets of `3.5 crore on the first 10 overs, and `9 crore on overall result (win/loss). Jitu won the bet on the first 10 overs, but lost the second as the Hyderabad team won the match, which was not the deal.(The Deccan Chronicle)

    nish Tuesday, 24 September 2013 10:00 AM

we can't judge this incident without having any proof. So we cannot blame to thisara. we have to wait and see what will happen.

    gOBBAYA Tuesday, 24 September 2013 08:09 AM

    Suddha Tuesday, 24 September 2013 04:51 AM

    Zeeshan Z Khan Tuesday, 24 September 2013 12:00 AM

    Ela ela ela Thisaraaaaaa

    Anushka Monday, 23 September 2013 07:00 PM

I do agree on this, Mumbai police should be commended for the work not defending the accused as done in many cases

Kiris Baba Amaray Monday, 23 September 2013 06:12 PM

Perera you have brought disgrace to our Nation. Let our Board of Control of Cricket will learn a good lesson by this nasty act.

Kiris Baba Amaray Monday, 23 September 2013 06:11 PM

Shame of our Man - Perera is also involved in this scandal. Being a great Cricketer he spoilt his name for the sake of "Big Money".

Kiris Baba Amaray Monday, 23 September 2013 06:08 PM

These money hunger greedy men should be severely punished, then only the spirit of Cricket will exist.

Kiris Baba Amaray Monday, 23 September 2013 06:06 PM

Good move... All these greedy pigs should be punished, either he is an Indian or a SriLankan. No mercy should be shown on them.

    Amir Monday, 23 September 2013 06:04 PM

So this is the latest way Indians found to remove the players who can trash their bowlers.

Lanka Lion Monday, 23 September 2013 04:30 PM

India has so much talent, and 10s of Thisera like players to select from, so what major benefit India would get by accusing Thisera of wrong doings and thinking of him as a threat?
If that is the case, India should also get players like Shane Watson, Chris Gayle and Sunil Narain!
India has been beating Sri Lanka with or without Thisera for the past 3-4 years or so, in every match that they had to win!

    RB Monday, 23 September 2013 04:15 PM

Thisara Perera Playing good cricket for some time, he will be a big threat to countries like India, using IPL and match fixing issue Indian's easily destroy his career, same they did for Pakistan players also, dont forget all the bookies are Indians (Even BCCI use this bookies to fix matches) Sri Lankan Cricket should protect our players

    LabuPoosa Monday, 23 September 2013 03:53 PM

I think this is total, typical from India, trying to discredit one of the most promising players of Sri Lanka. Of course they have accused three low profile Indian players too, so that it wouldn't look like a campaign to hit Sri Lanka.

Jagath Leanage Monday, 23 September 2013 02:29 PM

Way things happen, now we don't know who and who have fixed IPL matches for money. Sad.

    nilantha Monday, 23 September 2013 08:42 AM

Thisaratath wede denna wagai hadanne.....IPL kiyanne suudu polak...

    Jana Monday, 23 September 2013 12:58 PM

What crap is this perera got 3 wickets in that match! But he got out cheaply....still what proof....?

    SCK Monday, 23 September 2013 12:34 PM

As Arjuna always says our cricketers should not take part in or should not be allowed to take part in.

Peace Lover Monday, 23 September 2013 12:12 PM

This is clear cut lie by the Indians to discredit Sri Lankan Cricketers because their cricketing lot are a Money Hungry Wolves.

    SAM_SPARROW Monday, 23 September 2013 11:58 AM

Just punish him if it was true. That will be a lesson for rest of the Lankan players.

    warraa Monday, 23 September 2013 11:43 AM

i wont put it a cross.. but if so its a shame.

    Tuan K. Monday, 23 September 2013 11:28 AM

WE NEED TO SERIOUSLY THINK OF NOT PARTICIPATING IN IPL AS ADVISED BY ARJUNA.

    Prasannah Monday, 23 September 2013 11:12 AM

only one option. boycott IPL. which you can't because when it starts, all the cricket calendar comes to a standstill because its a monopoly by the indians.

    Hoodwinked Monday, 23 September 2013 11:11 AM

Please do not tarnish the name of this talented cricketer until he is proved guilty.

    Appu Monday, 23 September 2013 11:04 AM

Arjuna's predictions are coming true one by one. This dirty IPL killed the gentlemen's game

    raviraj Monday, 23 September 2013 09:57 AM

simple mind, read the article carefully before jumping to conclusions, only one of them is overseas player, the rest are Indians.

    aqh Monday, 23 September 2013 09:34 AM

i don't think thisara is such a guy as usual the indians are coming out to spoil our cricketers names and we helping them by giving more importance to IPL than our cricket. for example because of IPL we had only 2 test matches for this year.

simple mind Monday, 23 September 2013 09:03 AM

Looks like IPL is full of match fixing or is this a strategy of the Indians to discredit overseas up and coming players.

ayyo salary Monday, 23 September 2013 08:49 AM

ha haa haaa good one. so basically the guy won 3.5 crore but lost 9 crore. who had check mated whom???
just a sour loser!!!! where's the proof??!!!

    nalaka Monday, 23 September 2013 08:49 AM

Hmm aiming at Thisira Perera to hit our cricket
