House robbed while Nawaloka director was away



A driver and a security officer who were working at the residence of a Nawaloka Hospital director were yesterday remanded till May 2 by a Colombo Court on charges of having stolen gold jewellery worth Rs.3.5 million and Rs.15,000 in cash.

Hospital Director Harshith Dharmadasa in his complaint to the Kollupitiya police alleged that gold jewellery worth Rs.3.5 million and Rs.15,000 in cash were stolen by two of his employees from his residence located at Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha in Colombo.

The complainant told police that the theft would have taken place when his family members were away on a trip during the Avurudu season. On their return his wife had found that the money and jewellery items kept inside a cupboard were missing.

During their investigations the Kollupitiya police arrested the two employees and recovered the stolen cash and jewellery. Investigations had revealed that the suspects had opened the cupboard using newly cut keys. When the two suspects Asanka Chamara of Galnewa and Anuruddha Indika of Rambukkana were produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya and remanded till May 2. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
