Singapore Foreign Affairs and Law Minister, K Shanmugam, who is now in Sri Lanka encouraged member countries of the Commonwealth to cooperate constructively with Sri Lanka to help in its reconciliation process with the Tamil population, as well as help it grow economically and distribute the proceeds of that growth to its citizens.
He also said that political reconciliation cannot be imposed by external parties, and isolating Sri Lanka will not automatically result in improvements in the welfare of its citizens, Channel News Asia reported.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting ahead of the Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Mr Shanmugam said Sri Lanka had honoured its commitment to hold elections in the Northern Province in September -- with the election being deemed credible by observers.
He said Singapore's approach is to support Sri Lanka in its reconciliation process through constructive engagement, as well as by helping with development projects in the north and the east.
Mr Shanmugam said the growth of Asia is and will remain a fact, and Sri Lanka is poised to take advantage of this.

Then, he should talk to Tamil politicians who say 'Sinhala Kolanies..' and home land is only for Minorities..' . Because they are the ones who stop peace in the country. In 1977 also that's how they started this 30 year curse, by igniting hatred, ( pl. check Sansoni commission report ) they are at it again, this reality should be addressed and they should stop racist talk and acts. pl. some body pass this to Leaders who try to help.

By now Mr. Shanmugam should have realized that there was never and never will be a "true reconciliation" in the agenda of the Sri lankan Govt.
He should have seen through how there is always an attitude of "rocking the cradle and pinching the baby" at the same time in Sri Lankan" sordid history!!!

Excellent. This is why S'pore is what it is today. If S'pore had continued to lament on second world war atrocities by the Japanese to its citizens or 50's and 60's race riots they would not achieve the developed nation status. S'pore also have tough working laws against discrimination based on race or religion. It is time now for Sri Lanka to really learn (not selectively) from S'pore and forge ahead!

If your support and help is rejected, force the help. We need your intervention. Because we support the reconciliation process if genuine attempts are to implement.
