Govt. mulls April 15 holiday



The government was considering the possibility of declaring April 15 a Public and Mercantile holiday in view of the Sinhala-Hindu New Year, Public Administration Minister John Seneviratne said yesterday.

He said that it would be considered because the New Celebrations fall during the weekend this time.

“Due to the two days of the New Year celebrations on April 13 and 14 falling on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) the government has paid attention to declare Monday April 15 as an additional holiday,” he said.( Jayantha Samarakone)
