Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the government is facing difficulties for want of qualified personnel to fill the vacancies in many fields in the government sector.

“It is matter of serious concern that young men and women are reluctant to join the nursing profession despite wide opportunities and prospects. The government is facing difficulties for want of qualified persons to fill the vacancies in many fields. Shortage of civil engineers is one such,” he said.

Mr. Rajapaksa expressed concern about the poor response to the call for applications to fill 1700 vacancies for nurses in the security forces.

Addressing a ceremony at Uhumiya D.S. Senanayake Madya Maha Vidyalaya in Kurunegala he said applications were repeatedly called for the existing vacancies from young men and woman who possessed GCE Advanced Level in science subjects, but to no avail. The Defence Secretary said the recruits would be awarded a degree after four year training. (Pushpakumara Jayaratne)

Dear Sir, Even the skilled over seas experienced proffesionals become lazy zombies once they join govt. They will never be able to break thru the govt mafias n red tapes.
First of all, moment they are given a higher salary, these " doing nothing " people will go on a strike. JVP will raise their voices and make a big tamasha about it. This will never work.

There are plenty of gov. exams in English Medium. You can sit and try. But do not blame others. There are millions of people who have better English knowledge than you, I guess.

We should be able to pick a few from Seven - Eleven pumping stations. I know someone who has no idea what science, but can make a good Minister for Scientific Affairs (who cares about Prof Tissa Vitharana!). Don't worry - this guy would be all right. I know a good Minister for Economic Development, who did not do his Advanced Level!

We like to join government jobs. But they refuse us becs we are not flunt in sinhala writting and not back by minister.
For instance if you take inland revenue department, they do't know how to analyse anual report, how to verify.
Ther only has people who knows sinhala. Othr wise revenue is more. SLAS same.
