‘Free Show’ in train compartment
A train commuter who had allegedly sexually harassed a female teacher by exposing his private parts to her when she was travelling in an express train was arrested and produced in Court by the Fort Police.Lodging a complaint with Fort Police, the complainant said she was married with two children. She had boarded an express train to Colombo Fort from Mount Lavinia. The complainant said she was sitting in a third class compartment at the time of the incident and alleged that a man who stood in front of her had exposed his himself to her.
The complainant further alleged she was severely embarrassed by what she had witnessed. The suspect was arrested by Fort police upon her complaint received at the Fort Railway Station.
Producing the suspect before the Colombo Fort Acting Magistrate, the Fort police alleged that the suspect had committed a punishable offence that came under section 345 of the Penal Code. Accordingly, the suspect was ordered to appear before the Colombo Fort Permanent Magistrate on January 7. The suspect, a resident of Katuwana is currently out on police bail. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
