Four Lankans arrested in Chennai



Customs officials intercepted at least 16 people who tried to smuggle a total of 9.5 kg of gold worth Rs. 3 crore at Chennai airport on Tuesday. According to airport sources, the gold was found on passengers who reached the city airport from Dubai, Singapore, Muscat and Colombo.  

Three people from Ramanathapuram district smuggled in 1.8 kg of gold from Dubai in the form of trolley rods in suitcases. Five persons from Kerala had concealed 800 grams in secret compartments in suitcases.  

Four Sri Lankans and one Indian from Colombo had 800 grams of gold each in their rectums. Most of them were fined and released. (Source: The Hindu)
