Five suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Hasitha Madawala by the Criminal Investigation Department, police said.

Police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said one suspect was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday while trying to flee the country and the others were arrested on information given by him.

They said the pistol, allegedly used for the crime was also found after interrogating the suspects.

Madawala, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman near his home at Waragoda, Kelaniya on Saturday.

All those arrested were from Kelaniya

Meanwhile A co-ordinating secretary and the parliamentary affairs secretary of Minister in the area was among the five suspects arrested for the murder Kelaniya PS member Hasitha Madawala, CID said.

CID sources said that one of the suspects was also a former organizer of the Sinharamulla Electorate for the SLFP and possessed an identity card provided by the Minister. CID said that investigations had also revealed that the father of the main suspect had spied the whereabouts of the slain Madawala, prior to the murder.(Chaturanga Pradeep)

So now, all the cats are out of the bag. It is understood that all culprits are of the same family and the chief suspect is a co-ordinating secretary of the "King of Kelaniya", in other words the "marayos" of Maravin. This time the usual gimmick of sending the culprit overseas has failed as he was caught at the airport prior to boarding a plane to go to Singapore. Wonder what the "pure Buddhist" of Kelaniya has to say now.
