Following recent robberies and murders committed by men wearing ‘fullface’ helmets, Police today imposed a ban on wearing such helmets.

The ban would be implemented from March 21, the Police said.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said such incidents were consequences of not implementing this regulation earlier.

According a Police regulation, helmets covering the face between eyebrows and the chin would be prohibited.

“After March 20, riders wearing full face helmet would be fined Rs.1000, while a court case will be filed,” SSP Rohana said.

He said the Police wanted the regulation implemented immediately for two reasons – one because of instances where criminals escaped identification using full-face helmets with tinted visors and the other being recent murders using helmets as masks. (Piyumi Fonseka and Sanath Desmond)

Extremely poor decision - full face helmet is the proper head protection for any rider this is the international standard not for SL alone. Failure in apprehending culprits by the police - now coming up with kakille king kind of a stuff - we experienced this in 88-89 - same issue. - saying another words if anyone does a crime by wearing a full face helmet means he can get a away without getting identified. How if someone bring the full face helmet in a silly silly bag commit a crime and slowly put the half face helmet back on ? cool right ! that even become more difficult to catch the culprits. sad really sad .

This is not a wise decision. Full face is to protect the rider. There are methods to mitigate the culprit. Just because of few incidents many are on risk of their lives. Full face helmet riders should not be allowed to enter any premises keeping them at a distance.Tomorrow if some one covers them self with a perda and involve him or her self in an illegal act is the authority going to ban the perda costume.Banning Full face is just a temporary solution. We should use better techniques to get the culprits. Not to come up with kinder garden thinking s.
