Dr. Bandaranayake will go to courts today

Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake will not accept the legality of the order of removal signed by the President, and would proceed to the Supreme Court today but would ‘safeguard the integrity of the judiciary’, top sources close to the Chief Justice said.

Therefore, Dr. Bandaranayake would not physically resist any challenge if posed by the government today when she proceeds to court and would vacate her official residence this evening the source said.

Dr. Bandaranayake’s name was listed in the Supreme Court list to preside over court 502, in a three judge bench comprising Justice P.A. Rathnayake and Justice S.I. Imam.

However the source said Dr. Bandaranayake would not preside over the bench as scheduled, “in order to preserve the integrity of the Judiciary.”

The Lawyers of Dr. Bandaranayake said she would not accept the legality of the order, and would continue to fight the illegal order not relenting to pressure in pursuit of justice.

“Dr. Bandaranayake does not accept the legality of the order and therefore would continue to fight through legitimate means,” they said. (Hafeel Farisz)
