Disaster rehearsals tomorrow

A disaster management rehearsal would be held tomorrow (October 11) covering in all the 25 Districts in the country in line with the International Disaster Reduction day, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

The rehearsal programme is mainly focused on disasters like tsunami, landslide, and flood in the country, DMC said.

Awareness programme on floods will be held between 11 p.m. and 12 in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Moneragala and Kurunegala.

While the rehearsal for landslides will be held between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Rathnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Kegalle, Matale and Kandy.

Tsunami rehearsal will be held between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Hambantota, Matara, Galle, Kalutara, Gampaha, Colombo, Puttalam, Mannar, Jaffna, Mullaithivu and Kilinochchi.

DMC has planned to activate the early warning towers located in Hambantota police station, Dondra fisheries harbour in Matara and Vellamullivaikkal in Mullaithivu. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
