Deputy Minister of Environment A.R.M. Abdul Cader had lodged a complaint with the Kollupitiya police stating that he received death threats via phone by an anonymous caller on Tuesday night.
In his complaint to the police, the Deputy Minister alleged that an anonymous caller gave him death threats via phone calls using abusive language while he was staying at his residence. He complained that the anonymous caller threatened to kill him alone with his three daughters. The Deputy Minister further told police that he believed the caller couldhave been a Muslim man, though he spoke in Sinhala.
The Kollupitiya police who are conducting investigations sought a Court order in order to obtain telephone details pertaining to the suspect who gave threatening phone calls.
Accordingly, the Colombo Fort Magistrate ordered a mobile phone service provider to provide details pertaining to several telephone numbers which were alleged to have been used by the anonymous caller who allegedly threatened the Deputy Minister.
The Kollupitiya police were conducting further investigations into the incident. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
