The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently recording a statement from Southern Provincial Council Minister D.V.Upul over a controversial statement made by him regarding the Police Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID).

Addressing a public gathering on May 31, he had allegedly threatened to stone to death the officers attached to the FCID once Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to power as the Prime Minister.

Earlier, the Colombo Court directed the Controller of the Immigration and Emigration to prevent Mr. Upul from leaving the country.(DS)

He should have been arrested during the meeting and put behind bars pending inquiry - a grave offence to threaten a Police Officer and that too publicly.
