CoA extends temporary extradition order

The Court of Appeal order, which temporarily restrained the extradition of the Pakistani refugees staying in Sri Lanka, was extended today for four more days.

When the case was taken up before Appeal Court Judge Upali Abeyrathne it was stated that judgement in the case would be delivered on September 1.  The Immigration and Emigration Department recently decided to extradite Pakistani refugees who were living in Sri Lanka.

The restraining order was given by the Court of Appeal after considering a petition filled by   Aneela Imran, now temporarily staying in Negombo, against the Immigration Department’s decision.

The controller of Immigration and Emmigration Chulananda Perera, the IGP, the Attorney General and five others have been named as respondents.
