Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal today dismissed allegations that statistics provided by state institutions mainly the Central Bank and the Census and Statistics Department were distorted or ‘massaged’ to suit Government rhetoric on development.
He said the figures were accepted by International Organisations.
Responding to a journalist on the ‘massaging of data’ prepared by the Census and Statistics Department, Mr. Cabraal said those allegations were centered on information contained in a fundamental rights petition filed in the Supreme Court by an official who was sacked from the Department.
“Unfortunately, publicity has been given to only a section of the facts in the FR petition and that has created a misconception,” he added. (Sandun A. Jayasekera) (pix by Pradeep Dilrukshana)

Everything in this country is massaged for the benefit of the elite. The poor man is massaged for his taxes etc.

He is only concerned about his figures being accepted by the International organizations not the reality in country

Whatever word one uses, i.e. massaging, cooking-up, fudging or even "shaping up", the fact remains that those in authority are guilty of a big fraud against the citizens of the country as well as the international community. People have lost all faith on the politically appointed Governor of the Central Bank whose prime duty appears to be to keep those in power happy with cooked-up figures.

This is a 'tongue-in-cheek' statement and should be taken with a pinch of salt

I totally agree. As an economist, Cabraal is a total disaster for Sri Lanka. In 2009 when the currency of our main competitors were being depreciated he stood firm and made our Rupee the strongest in the world but our exporters found our products priced out of the markets. He places unnecessary hindrances to overseas investors E.g their funds in the mandatory SIA account that could be converted to foreign currency cannot be spent locally unless for investments.
