Out-dated cosmetics and other related products valued at Rs. 1 million had been seized by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) from popular salon at Isipathana Mawatha, Colombo 5 today.
Officials of the CAA told the Daily Mirror that some of the cosmetics were taken into the custody to determine whether they were approved by the Drugs and Cosmetics Authority.
“We could not find whether some of the cosmetics were products that are allowed to be used in Sri Lanka and therefore we took them to our custody for further investigations,” CAA's Special Raid Squad Officer-in-Charge Jazoor said.
He said the products had been imported from countries like the United States and Italy and were expensive.
“Some of the products had altered expiry dates. Some labels had been removed,” he said.
The Authority inspected 110 beauty parlours following a rise in the number of complaints it had received.
The CAA said legal action would be taken against 30 beauty parlours for violating regulations.
