A British female tourist who had the image of the Buddha tattooed in her hand was arrested by the Katunayaka Airport Police and produced before Negombo Additional Magistrate T.M.T. Bandara today.
Police told the court that the image of Buddha sitting on a lotus flower was tattooed in her hand and it was contrary to Buddhism.
We should introduce death penalty for people who insult Buddhism.
Some of our priests insult buddhism most, are they to be given the penalty as well?

OK, but how come you don't do anything against a priest who make mockery of another religion?

many cannot see the difference between the breach of Buddhist principles and behaving in disgrace of a another religion. we must not ridicule the religions or to feel bad of them.

There are so many idiots argue here. That tourist deported simply because having Buddha image tattooed on the body is harming the feelings of Buddhist people of this country. These information is on government travel information guides of many western countries. There are something call ethics in this world. Its simply act of gratitude. You don't shit at the people who welcomes you when you visit. via DM Android App

I told SL Immigration numerous times to enlighten prospective tourists as to cultural sensitivities through SL Immigration website and SL tourism website. Tourists get a tattoo or wear a T shirt with a print of Buddha, as a mark of respect, whereas it's offensive in Sri Lanka.

Is this a fair Punishment or a revenge against Britain. Isn't this punishment too harsh when Buddha printed papers lie on streets. We don't mind when Holy cross is tatooed on the body.

This country is turning into a buddhist Saudi. Soon we will have a religious pollice telling what people should do an do not. I have learnt buddhism for some time, and my knowledge is not complete. But where on earth do we have something written in dhamma or vinaya saying that 'a tattoo with buddha on a lotus' on a woman's hand is contrary to buddhism? Maybe the woman has some respect for the buddha, thats why she has a made an un-erasable drawing of the great man on her hand!

We wan't to bring casino's into the country , all big drug dealers come into this country without no question, but a tourist with a Buddha tattoo can't visit.
