Bodies of mother and son found in Kiriella
The charred bodies of a 32-year-old woman and her 7-year-old son were discovered in their home at Mudunkotuwa, Kiriella this morning.
Police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said the two bodies lying side-by-side were discovered by neighbours. The fire emanating from the bedroom had alerted them.
SSP Jayakody said police investigations had revealed that the mother might have set fire to her son and herself while in disturbed state of mind having for months grieving over her four-year-old son who had died from an alleged drug overdose.
It was also revealed that young mother’s relatives had blamed her for the death of the four-year-old child and might have been another reason that had led to the tragedy.
The woman’s husband had been away at the time.
