Big medal haul for SL juniors at Asian Chess
Sri Lanka’s junior chess players performed brilliantly at the 10th Asian Schools Chess Championships held in Taichung, Taiwan from August 23 to 30, wining two gold, one silver and four bronze medals. Sri Lankan players also bagged 14 merit certificates.Ishini Wickramasinghe of Musaeus College in the girls under 15 and M Sasith Nipun Piyumantha of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda in the boys under 13 bagged the gold medals while I.M.T.S.Gunawardane of Maliyadeva B.V., Kurunegala won a silver in girls under 7 category.
Ehsha Pallie of St. Paul’s Girls’ College, Milagiriya (Girls Under 7), Methmani Nelunika of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda (Girls under 17), Kevin Ranindu Silva of Holy Cross College (Boys under 9) and Kasun Wimalasuriya Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda(Boys under 17) won the bronze medals.
