Students’ unions and five faculty unions at the Sabaragamuwa University have been banned from last night, a Sabaragamuwa University official said a short while ago.
He said the decision was prompted by the illegal activities of student-union activists’ threatening the safety of the university.
However, Sabaragamuwa university student union representative Haritha Prabath speaking to Daily Mirror dismissed the allegation and said they had not engaged in any illegal activity. He said the reason for the ban was the repeated allegations the students had been making against the university administration alleging that they were charging exorbitant fees from students who are in the hostels and the reduction of the new student intake this year.
