Avissawella remand prison temporarily closed

The Avissawella Remand Prison was closed temporarily due to urgent renovations, Minister Prison Reforms, Chandrasiri Gajadeera said.

This remand prison was used to house prisoners, temporarily brought from other prisons to be produced in court cases. Twenty such detainees escaped from the prison last week out of which three have been arrested. (Sanath Desmond)
