Austin Fernando appointed as Presidential advisor

President Maithripala Sirisena today appointed former senior civil servants Austin Fernando, Tilak Ranaviraja and W. J. S. Karunaratne as Presidential Advisors.

Austin Fernando, a senior Administrative Service officer was a former Secretary to the Defence Ministry. Tilak Ranavirajah was also a senior administrative officer who held several important positions in the government as well as international organisations was secretary to the Public Security, Media, Health and Indigenous Medicine, Mahaweli and Power and Energy Ministries.

Retired Senior Administrative Service Officer W.J. S. Karunaratne was the President’s Secretary during the Chandrika Kumaratunga regime and was a former Ambassador to Canada.

Appointment of Mr,Austin Fernando is a good choice for the 100days programme of the New Government. I have had the pleasure of working together with him when he was the secretary of Minstry of Relirf Reconstruction Rehabilitation in 1987 during the period Resettlment was offered to Indian Refugees Returned through Mannar District. He takes quick decision at the appropriate time.He is the ideal person for this period as advisor to the H.E. the president.

Agree, we need senior people to help govern, but we need smart people with a good track record. Dont think the former Secretary to the Defence Ministry did anything good or credible to get a Presidential Advisors role and the past track record has proved it. So why do we go back to the same lot just for the sake of having senior people.

Austin need not have given any pistol to Pirabaharan because VP is always said to have been carrying a personal pistol with him for his self- defence and there were reports that Pirabaharan shot himself not to be captured by his alleged enemy.Conversely VP was the one who stabbed in the back of then Prime minister Ranil and then defence secretary Austin to resume his unrealistic separatist war persistently..Please do not make nonsensical remarks on matters you are unaware of.
