Video: Aluthgama incident, scripted drama: BBS

Budu Bala Sena (BBS) today said it suspected whether the Aluthgama incident was a scripted drama enacted either by the Government or the Opposition just like the incident which occurred during the concert held in Colombo participated by famous actor Shahrukh Khan despite repeated protests by religious leaders.

“When we analyse the facts one by one, we realise that the Aluthgama incident may be a scripted drama. We cannot imagine whether it was a drama of the Government or the Opposition. There was a peaceful atmosphere in Aluthgama and this was the first time such a clash occurred even after several incidents were reported. Even when a Buddhist monk was assaulted, no clash was erupted other than he made a complaint to the police. We intervened and prevented when a clash was going to occur. But no organisation or any one praised us for that,” BBS General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thera said.

Ven. Gnanasara Thera told a news conference that it was clear that the Aluthgama incident was a definite conspiracy by the way some Ministers and Opposition MPs acted to term the BBS which acted to control the angry crowds in Aluthgama as terrorists.

“We learnt that people were organising with arms for a clash and we thought it was not good for the country if a clash erupted. So we as Buddhist monks acted to organise a convention to educate the people about the incident and disperse them peacefully. That was the only thing we could do at that time and that is what happened in history also in such a situation. And some armed people attacked them when they were dispersing peacefully. That is why the clash erupted,” he said.

Ven. Gnanasara Thera said the Social Integration Minister had not yet summoned the BBS for a meeting and asked why they were making derogatory statements and create issues for the last two and half years.

“As a responsible Minister, he should call us for a meeting and ask why we were making derogatory statements. That is how Ministers should act. But some Ministers are making baseless allegations against us without any evidence,” Ven. Gnanasara Thera said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Sanath Desmond)
