The Colombo General Hospital said there was a drastic decrease in the number of accidents recorded during the New Year festivities.

The hospital said during the 24 hours leading to midnight December 31nearly 498 accidents were reported. This is a 17% decrease when compared with the previous year.

The General Hospital recorded 204 admissions, a 7% dip from last year with only eight alcohol-related accidents being recorded -- a 78% dip from the previous year.

This is doesn't means people are cautious.
Actually the middle class and the lower class don't have money to spend for the season.
See fire cracker vendors too are much affected with poor sales.

People are now very cautious when it comes to spending on entertainment & leisure. After spending on essential expenditures, people hardly have money to spend on other things. Yesterday, most people celebrate the New Year at homes with little arrangements rather than going out for lavish parties.
