Social media is pushing more young people toward violent behavior, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital consultant psychiatrist Dr. Rumi Ruban said.
He said it is important to identify those at risk early and guide them in a better direction.
“Many people now use violence to solve problems, and social media spreads anger and hate that encourage such behavior. Young people are especially affected and end up acting violently,” Dr. Ruben explained.
He added that these youths can be drawn into drug groups and underworld gangs, often struggling with anger issues. “Once they enter such a lifestyle, it is very hard to escape. Bringing criminals to justice is important, but the best solution is to identify young people early and give them proper help and rehabilitation,” he said.
