Youth attack bus carrying garment workers in fear of COVID-19

The Vavuniya Police have arrested five youth in connection with the attack on a bus transporting garment workers in the Muruganoor area in Vavuniya.

Police said that the youth who had come wearing masks and had attacked the bus and also assaulted the driver and the garment factory workers on the bus.

Earlier, the youth had protested not to bring the bus carrying garment workers into their village claiming that the employees could spread COVID-19.

The Vavuniya police had intervened to settle the matter at that time.

The arrested would be produced in the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court. (Sithum Chaturanga)

That's means you dont understand the ground situation. Do some reserch how Covid19 spread through garment works in the north and how owners breaking the health guidelines.

This is very sad. Garment workers generally hail from poor families. They are the bread-winners of their families. This youth due to their ignorance. We have to make them understand that the way to resolve the crisis of the pandemic is to do PCRs widely, then contact tracing and quarantining. Above all massive investment in health infrastrucure, closure of non-essential industries, provision of PPEs to health workers are the need of the day. These remedial measures could be met only under an electorate friendly state. Democracy here is highly questionable.

I am against violence but it is understandable. These garnment factories were the reason for the 2nd wave and are still breeding grounds for Covid. They should be closed down to prevent the further spread.
