Youth arrested over fake bank website scam

Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - A 22-year-old suspect from Minuwangoda has been arrested over an alleged financial fraud involving a counterfeit website imitating a private bank, Sri Lanka Police said.

The arrest was made by the Computer Crimes Investigation Division (CCID), North Western Province Unit, following a complaint received on February 16, 2026.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly created and operated a fake website resembling the official platform of a private bank, through which he is believed to have defrauded Rs. 1,000,024.

The suspect was arrested yesterday and later handed over to the Wariyapola Police Station. He is scheduled to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court today (21).
